KUALA LUMPUR – AETDEW President, Ir. Choo Kok Beng, recently attended the launch of three significant ASEAN Initiatives on Inclusivity and Sustainability, a key event held under Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship.
The initiatives underscore the region’s collective resolve to drive a future anchored in sustainable practices, technology, and grassroots economic empowerment.
The launch ceremony highlighted Malaysia’s vision for a resilient and forward-looking ASEAN, focusing heavily on integrating Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) with sustainable development goals.
Key Initiatives for a Sustainable ASEAN Future
The three launched initiatives directly align with AETDEW’s mission to promote the adoption of cutting-edge technologies for socio-economic welfare:
1. Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Excellence Centre for Green Transition in ASEAN (MEGA): This centre is designed to equip MSMEs—the backbone of ASEAN economies—with the knowledge and resources necessary to adopt green practices and technologies. AETDEW strongly supports this initiative, recognizing that the transition to a circular economy must be supported by technological transfer and capacity building at the enterprise level.
2. ASEAN Ahead: ASEAN STI Ecosystem Foresight 2035 and Beyond Report: This report provides a strategic roadmap outlining the trends, disruptions, and opportunities that will shape the region’s STI landscape over the next decade. Ir. Choo Kok Beng noted the vital importance of this foresight document for anticipating future challenges and leveraging technology to accelerate economic growth and collective prosperity across ASEAN.
3. ASEAN in 2025: Shaping an Inclusive and Sustainable Future Book: This publication serves as a comprehensive resource detailing the vision and strategy behind Malaysia’s Chairmanship theme.
