Dato Lee Yee Cheong met up with his old friend Athar Osama on 23 October 2025 in Petaling Jaya Malaysia after some 10 years.

Athar Osama is very well known in international circle being STEM, Deeptech Eco-System Builder/Angel Investor; Researcher / Principal Investigator on Education. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Engineering and Technology of the Developing World AETDEW. Dato Lee was very impressed that in the past seven or eight years, Athar has trained several hundred young entrepreneurs, particularly women in Pakistan. Their micro and mini enterprises are thriving. Athar has also arranged STEM training courses for university lectures and school teachers. Many of his projects are private sector funded. He realises that in the AI era, STEM programmes are too narrow. These must include arts, history, culture, song and dance, food and cuisine etc. There are many more micro and mini enterprises in the informal economy of South countries in these areas that would need AI to enhance their efficiency and stay competitive. His activities mirror Dato Lee’s AETDEW initiative in AI Education with Industry/Education integration as per the AI practices and applications in China. Athar agrees to be the Pakistan contact in AETDEW AI Education Programme linking Pakistan with Malaysia and China.
